Systems Administrator UNIX/LINUX

Summary:

Systems Administrator with a focus on the UNIX/LINUX infrastructure. This position is primarily responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of the UNIX/LINUX server environment including Sun Solaris (9x, 10x, etc.), Linux Redhat, and VMWare. Also backup systems, and 3rd party vendor systems, supporting both production and business information technology operations.


Requirements:

Specific Responsibilities:
• Designing, configuring deploying, and maintaining a UNIX/LINUX server environment
• Responsible for installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all server operating systems, security and network connectivity.
• Ensure adherence to all IT and department policy, processes and procedures.
• Develop and maintain accurate documentation of procedures, processes, server topology, system configurations and standards across enterprise environments generating status updates of assigned projects and issues.
• Monitor system performance and availability. Resolve system / server performance and hardware issues.
• Establish and maintain appropriate system backup procedures.
• Maintain server security architecture and access control.
• Coordinate testing, rollout, and deployment of critical operating system and software patches/upgrades for servers and desktop systems.
• Recommend new hardware/software to maintain a high standard of performance and to meet user growth requirements.
• Serves as lead technical troubleshooter on complex server hardware and application issues. Provide second level end user support.
• Participate in an on-call rotation that provides 24x7x365 support of critical systems.
• Assists with other IT related special projects as determined by business need.

Required Skills/Experience:
• Bachelor degree in MIS, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum of 5 years of UNIX/LINUX System Administration experience.
• Extensive hands-on experience designing, deploying, and maintaining a UNIX/LINUX server environment.
• Security experience hardening and managing public web servers running Apache.
• Must possess a thorough knowledge of all areas of UNIX/LINUX administration, deployment and troubleshooting
• Must possess the proven ability to solve complex problems
• Good understanding of networking infrastructure and operation
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with customer services, troubleshooting, and problem solving skills.
• Experience developing end user communication and rollout plans
